Robert Ashford, a 3-handicap golfer who recently competed in the club championship at Saucon Valley, said he has long joked about owning a golf course someday. For the new owner of Locust Valley Golf Course, that day came sooner than he expected.

Ashford, an Upper Saucon Township resident who learned to play golf on the 58-year-old course near Coopersburg, recently acquired the financially troubled facility with hopes of making it viable again. He understands the challenge.
